Starting the league with a Win

St.Nicholas 4-12 v 0-6 Cúchulainn Gaels HT 3-4 v 0-5 St.Nicholas opened their division 3B campaign with a comfortable win in their rescheduled encounter in Jimmy Pentony Park on Tuesday evening. Both sides started brightly, exchanging points early on, Con Sheehan on the mark for the Nicks. The visitors were having their fair share of possession but couldn’t convert it to the scoreboard. St.Nicholas ‘ patience was rewarded midway through the half with goals from Eddie Carr and Rian Farrell extending the lead. The gaels kept battling forward and added to their tally with two frees and two from play. A late rally from the Nicks resulted in points for Johnny Carter, Alex Finnegan and a Jimmy Murray goal, leaving the gap at eight going into the break. A fine solo effort from Nicks captain Brian Carter direct from the throw-in set the tone for the second half. The home team were dominant with Sam Reilly and Farrell to the fore. Points from Lee Kavanagh, Paudi Downey and Farrell put the result beyond any doubt. Lee Kavanagh then found the net at the second attempt, his first attempt striking the post but he cooly hit the bottom corner with his second chance.
